Slackening structures for KTB Rotterdam

Last November we started the production of 4 slackening structures for Koole Tankstorage Botlek B.V. (KTB) in Rotterdam. A beautiful project commissioned by DIMCO. The slackening structures in the port of Rotterdam serve as a mooring facility and are suitable for both sea and inland shipping.

The project

The project includes the realization of 4 barriers with a length varying from 165 to 215 meters (725 meters in total). The barriers have a weight of 1350 tons. Each slackening structure is therefore divided into several sections. These sections are 15 to 28 meters long and weigh between 30 and 62 tons. In addition to the sections, we also manufacture the associated stairs and landings in our production hall. After the parts have been produced, the sections are preserved internally and the stairs and landings are hot-dip galvanized. The sections are then transported by water from our location in Heeg. This is done in approximately six water transports. The last sections will be delivered at the end of May.

United in steel

Within the GB Steel Group, we regularly collaborate with our other steel processing divisions. During this project we worked together with our sister company Kampstaal Staalbouw in Emmeloord. They have taken care of part of the pipe cutting. It concerned the largest pipes that we have had so far cut at Kampstaal: Ø1829/25 – 14Mtr – 15.6 tons.
