Protective posts – Prinses Margrietkanaal

The assignment

The main waterway Lemmer-Delfzijl is one of the most important waterways of the Netherlands. However, various bridges and civil constructions located over the Prinses Margrietkanaal require maintenance. By placing new protective posts, the bridges are better protected in the event of a frontal collision and the risk of serious damage is reduced. For that reason, in collaboration with Knol Akkrum, we have realized 6 new protective posts for the bridges near Ald Skou, Uitwellingerga and Spannenburg.

The activities

All 6 protective posts were produced simultaneously in our production halls. We first pre-processed the tube constructions and then started the elaboration and the realization. During the production process, welding process 121 was used, in which the weld is applied to the construction with a solid wire under the protection of a powder coating. The approx. 24m long protective posts were manually blasted and preserved. Before they were transported, the protective posts were fitted with UHMWPE with Trespa signaling plates.

The first 4 protective posts were placed at the beginning of March near the Aldskou and Uitwellingerga bridges. At a later stage, the protective posts for the Spannenburg bridge will follow. Below, you can see some nice impressions of the project.
